My name is Calliope Gazetas and I’m a designer, artist and general maker of things and stuff.
99 Monsters Design is my design studio where I create logos, business stationary and websites. It’s also where I keep my design library, pen collection, sewing machine and button maker. I recently completed OCADU’s Interdisciplinary Master’s in Design in Toronto in 2014, where I studied urban wildlife, coyotes, ecology, natural history and design systems. I came to the Comox Valley as a break when I finished my thesis in 2012. After a summer working on a local organic farm, swimming in the Tsolum River and Kye Bay, I found I couldn’t go back to Toronto and those long winters.
I have a BFA from UBC (1995), five years experience in the publishing industry (Raincoast Books), and a Communication Design (Interactivity and Typography) degree from Emily Carr (2005).
From 2007 to 2011 I lived and worked in San Francisco on a multitude of design and web development projects. I ate a lot of tamales and spent a lot of time surrounded by fog in the Inner Richmond. While I was in SF, I worked on designing and implementing custom themes for content management systems such as WordPress, interface design, typography and logo design.
Currently I’m living on Vancouver Island in the beautiful Comox Valley where I raise chickens in the summer, drink a lot of coffee, listen to minimal techno and sing along badly to folk and bluegrass music. In the fall I can be found lurking in the undergrowth on the mountains, looking for chanterelles, lobster and hedgehog mushrooms and exclaiming delightedly when I find each one.
